I've had this crochet cat nest pattern, by Eilen Tein pinned for ages now. There it sat on my crafts board, taunting me. "If only I had a cat," I'd sigh as I gazed longingly at the pictures of her adorable kitty. Ok, maybe I'm being a little melodramatic. But now that I finally have an adorable kitty of my own I'm spoiling her with toys, love, and quite of bit of my own blood (she can get a bit vicious).
I made this cat oven (get it? 'cause she's a muffin?) using one and a half skeins of Wool Ease Thick 'n' Quick, so you just know it hooked up in no time (about 4 hours really). And Muffin loves it! So far she likes chasing her tail in it, rolling around on the bed.
Hi, I love this project and have three cats of my own who would also love this (although I'd have to adjust the size because they are Maine Coons). I've posted two photos and a link back to your blog for the Ravelry link. Hope this is OK.
ReplyDeletedid you resize it? I also have a Maine Coon and would like to try this. Let me know... :)
Deletemy kitty is muffin too!

No way this is so cool, my cat Cookie is a cross breed tabby that looks similar to the Maine coon (her face is slightly shorter than the Maine coons)I want to make this cave for her and her mother!
Deletewhat a great idea for cats and cat lovers alike
ReplyDeleteon dirait une tortue!!;-)
ReplyDeleteune tortue, c'est tout a fait ma pensee! I love it-- but I will have to enlarge the entrance for my "corpulent" beast.
ReplyDeleteHi! I have to say, your version is the cutest of all the versions I've seen so far! Nice to hear that pattern was used and that your Muffin likes it too :) Thanks for linking!
ReplyDeleteIs there an English version anywhere? Google translate is a bit quirky...

You just have to scroll down and there's an english version included at the bottom.
DeleteThis is adorable! As someone who spoils her cats almost to death (not really), this would be a perfect addition to their myriad of other kitty DIY accoutrement.
ReplyDeleteN'aaaaawwwww, that's so adorable! And it looks beautiful too. :)
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS AMAZING!! I don't know how to crochet tho, is it hard to teach yourself?
ReplyDeleteNot at all! There are so many videos on youtube that make it much easier! Once you get the basics, it just gets easier and easier.
DeleteCan you make it available in English?
ReplyDeleteThere is an English translation toward the bottom of the post in this link:

I didn't see that. Thank you!
DeleteI love this idea and I could't avoid to present it in my blog. I hope you like it! http://www.fuxiatelier.com/2012/11/quiero-uno-para-nico.html
ReplyDeleteBest regards,
Marina
My cat likes so much to be covered all around and have some breathing hole, I will try this. On my blog I regularly show nice crochet projects and I like to make a post of your work with reconnection to you. Thank you so much for this catlovers post.
ReplyDeleteGreat!!!
ReplyDeleteI volunteer at On Angels' Wings, a resale store and animal rescue/adoption center. These are adorable and would be wonderful for our live-in Kitties. How do I get the pattern so I can try and make some to donate?

Hi Esther,
DeleteWhat a great idea! Here is the link to the pattern: http://www.eilentein.com/2012/05/pesa.html
It's in English towards the bottom of the post.
VERY nice... my cat looks like yours. I will be making this that's for sure.. thanks so much for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteMy cat would love that. She loves to be "IN," if you know what I mean. Her favorite place to sleep is underneath the couch cover. That's right--between the couch and the cover itself, buried into a corner.
ReplyDeleteWhat size cat does the pattern fit? I want to make it for a big cat, but I am a dog person so I don't know how to judge measurement. Thanks
ReplyDeleteHi! This is my first time trying to use a crochet pattern and also my first time crocheting in the round. I;m not entirely sure I'm doing it correctly or not..I'm on 6 rnd, and my whole round is very wavy and I'm not sure if its supposed to be. I have a feeling it should be more bowl shaped. I just want to make sure before I unravel it again. Thank you for this adorable idea!!
ReplyDeleteThe bottom of my nest came out nice, but I did find the top (when decreasing) to be wavy. So I just flipped the nest over when I was done. I would think (I don't know for sure) that if it's getting wavy, that means we're doing more stitches needed to get the nice flat round shape. You could probably fix this by modifying the pattern, using different yarn, or hook. Sorry :(
Deletewhat size needles did you use? the source blog says she uses 8mm but her 'yarn' also looks like a different size... thanks!
ReplyDeleteI used a weird, mystery hook that didn't have a size on it, but it seemed to be 8mm. The yarn is Lion Brand Thick 'n' Quick, which doesn't stay up super well. I have to pop it open, but the cat mostly likes to lay on top of it anyway.
Deletei'm having a hard time understanding the pattern. please help!
ReplyDelete6 rnd: *2 sc, 2 sc in one st* repeat the whole round
does she mean 4 single crochet's in each stitch or just 2? There are a few rows like this where she uses a comma between the discription for the row and i'm not sure what she means.
The "2 sc, 2sc in one st" means sc in the first st, sc in the second st, and do 2sc in the third stitch. So you're making 4 stitches where there were previously 3.
DeleteOMG thank you for this clarification! I'm new to crocheting and self-taught, so sometimes it's very difficult for me to read patterns. But I think I totally get it now! Thank you thank you!!
DeleteI think that most crochet patterns use a slip stitch at the end of each round and then a chain at the end of each row before turning. This pattern works from the center. It was easier for me to visualize it when following the directions. I'm left-handed, which almost always throws a curve ball into patterns, but not this one. The result is adorable. I made the top in cream and the bottom in lavender.
DeleteAwww, this is so cute! My cat (who looks exactly like yours!) would never play with it though. She never wants anything I give her, only stuff she can steal!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to make this! Where can I get the pattern?
ReplyDeleteI have a Beagle that this would be perfect for.
ReplyDeleteMy guinea pigs would dig this!
ReplyDeleteI've seen one that was made for guinea pigs! They seem pretty dang happy.
DeleteI love it! Started making one for my cats t-shirt yarn and they already slept on it:) It looks so comfy!
ReplyDeleteI made this for my sister for Christmas! Her cats won't use it though, haha they just lay ON it.

I *love* this!! Thank you for posting it! It's really cute! And yours turned out really well. Once I'm done I'm sure my cat will love it! And I'm thinking of making some for friends, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI just started and I'm on the 18th round, but I have a question about the original post. It says on the 26th round, "26 rnd: in the eighth round continue crocheting 1sc in one st, then crochet 8 ch over the entrance. Continue 1 sc in one st until in the end of the round."
What does "then crochet 8 ch over the entrance" mean?? I've no clue!! I get that you 1 single crochet until you get to the entrance part you've started, but don't know why/how/where you 8 chain over the entrance??
Can you give me any advice or help? Thank you so much for any help you can give!! I really love this and hope I don't mess it up!

Que hermoso!
ReplyDeleteI volunteer for a cat organization and would love to make a few of these, how do I get the pattern.
ReplyDeleteI've published your post at my blog and translate it into german. It's so nice :) Thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking my son's dog, a min pin who loves to burrow would like this..... She's small.
ReplyDeleteSo totally cute! thanks!!!

Bonjour comment avoir le modele pour faire ce nid? merci
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm halfway through the pattern and i've already finished two skeins of wool ease thick&quick... ill have to go buy another :/
ReplyDeleteSo anyway just a warning to everyone : buy more than two skeins!!
I saw the English pattern of it at the bottom, but everything is written together and somewhat "butchered" or hard to understand from a traditional English version. Could you write it in your understanding?
ReplyDeleteCould you use regular acrylic 4-ply yarn for this project?
ReplyDeleteI just finished making this and I used two strands of worsted weight acrylic yarn held together. I used a size K hook and it turned out really well! The top side is quite rippled from the quick decreases, but I'm just going to flip it over! :)
